Think you have what it takes to beat the pro’s? Check out who you’ll be facing up the KOM in the 2020 Pedal Taiwan VCR Challenge.

Perhaps best known for holding the world record for cycling around the world. Mark smashed the previous time of 276 days and 19 hours with an eye-watering 194 days and 17 hours. Starting and finishing in Paris the ride went through 20 countries in total spanning Europe, the Middle East, India, Asia, Australasia, and North America.

Then in 2017, he did it again. This time, taking a different route. Aiming to cycle around the world in 80 days, he managed one better with a staggering 78 days and 14 hours. Not to mention, all of this was in the name of charity. Safe to say the man loves a challenge, he’ll be pushing on all the racers in the 10am race!

"Doing an event for Action is always an amazing experience and I’m so pleased to be an ambassador for them. Knowing the money raised is going to help fund vital research for poorly children means a great deal to me.”

"Taiwan has always captured my imagination as a cyclist that loves a climb or two. The Taiwan KOM Challenge has been mentioned countless times as a must-do event, not purely because of the amazing climbing and scenery, but the community of cyclist that it entices. Those that want to test themselves over terrain not many countries have, and those that want to make the very most of the culture and hospitality that Taiwan offers."

Action Medical Research has a proud history of protecting children for over 65 years funding research to develop treatments, vaccinations and cures. The charity was originally founded in 1952 by Duncan Guthrie, who made it his mission to raise funds to defeat polio, a condition that affected the lives of many thousands of children including his own daughter Janet. His mission was realised when within 10 years, the first UK polio vaccines were introduced. Their track record of success also includes helping develop a vaccination for Hib meningitis and testing the rubella vaccination. Their funding also helped to develop the use of ultrasound scanning in pregnancy. Today, they continue their fight to fund top quality medical research to save the lives of babies, children and young people and are forging ahead to fund research to help better understand the impact of COVID-19 on children.
